Özet
The global clothing market, which constitutes a significant part of world trade, is one of the main markets that affect consumption tendencies in the world. In this context, this research aims to analyze the consumption tendencies in the global clothing market. In accordance with the aim of the research, the alterations within the export and import values of the leading global clothing exporter (China, European Union (27), Bangladesh, Vietnam, Türkiye, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Pakistan) and importer countries (European Union (27), United States of America, Japan, United Kingdom, China, Canada, South Korea, Russia, Switzerland, and Australia) are analyzed in detail. The leading clothing exporter and importer countries are determined according to the data of the World Trade Organization’s World Trade Statistical Review 2022. The analysis is performed on a product basis and contains data from the last decade. Besides, a survey on consumption tendencies in the global clothing market is conducted with the clothing enterprises, which are involved in the largest 1000 industrial enterprises of Türkiye, which is a significant player in the global clothing trade. Afterwards, the obtained data is analyzed. Thus, consumption alterations and the prominent product groups and trends in the clothing market, which has a significant place in the world trade, are revealed by using primary data (survey study) and secondary data (international clothing trade statistics). Subsequently, suggestions are made to clothing enterprises and brands that operate in the global clothing market, based on determined consumption tendencies. According to the obtained research results, the global clothing market has maintained its importance and share in the general global export and import in the last decade. China has maintained its leadership in global clothing export, whereas the European Union (27) is the leader of in the global clothing import. Besides, consumers have demanded mainly organic and recycled raw materials and products in recent years, and the tendency towards timeless and classic products has gradually increased. These demands are also coherent with sustainability and environmental protection policies, whose importance has gradually increased in recent years. © 2024 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
