Cats have been symbols of many things since ancient times, sometimes they were sacred and worshiped as in ancient Egypt, and sometimes they were murdered together with women who were thought to be in cooperation with the devil as in the Christian world of the Middle Ages. Cat has been loaded with a variety of meanings from its look to its color, species and life style. Due to its dualistic emotions, unexpected leaps from numbness to madness, and the playfulness of its unstable mood, constant attention was drawn to the mysterious side of the cat. Painters such as Goya and Manet tried to emphasize the femininity, freedom and dark sides of women with cat pictures. the relationship between women and cats in Turkish literature was discussed by other artists as well as writers and poets such as Samipaşazade Sezai, Tevfik Fikret, Halit Ziya, Hüseyin Rahmi, Yakup Kadri, Behçet Necatigil, Nâzım Hikmet and Cahit Külebi on whom we will focus in this study. in the works where the woman is associated with the cat, malicious emotions such as disloyalty, uncanny and frustration are highlighted.
