This research entitled, “Woman Clothes and Fashion Through The Art of 19. Century European Paintings”, examines the development of woman clothes during the century through the art of paintings. It is observed that, the changes among the women clothes are quite parallel to the changes of political, social, technological and economical dynamics in the Europe. The artists were influenced by exactly the same headings while they are creating their paintings. As a result of this, the concept of art has changed. The new concept “ordered art” has occurred and this encourages the depiction of woman clothes in the paintings. Through the examination of 19. Century European Art; the most common movements like Neo-Classicism, Romanticism, Realism, Pre-Raphaelite, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism were observed. It was seen that the Impressionist painters used to reflect the periods’ fashion attributions most efficiently. In order to avoid repeating the headings, the most reflective paintings were chosen. It is observed that the clothes types, and the rising trends of the women fashion were intensively depicted by the leading 19. Century paintings. By the research, it is seen that, the women -who used to wear very uncomfortable corsets and play a very unfunctional mission in the social life by the beginning of the century-promoted to a unisex style which lets them compete with the man. This might be accepted as the journey of women to handle the right to choose and to be chosen.
