Özet
Yaşlılık döneminde yaşanan en önemli sosyal sorunlardan birisi yaşlıların bakımıdır. Her ne kadar 65 yaş ve üzerindeki her yaşlı, hasta ve bakıma muhtaç olmasa da hastalanma riski ve fiziksel yetersizlikleri nedeniyle yardıma ihtiyaç duyma olasılığı artmaktadır. Bu dönemde görülen fonksiyonel ve fiziksel yetersizlikler nedeniyle yaşlı bireyler ve aileleri toplumsal bakım alternatifleri arasından birini seçme ile karşı karşıya kalmaktadır. Birlikte yaşamaktan çıkan problemler ve modern hayatın doğal sonucu olarak yaşlılık probleminin de çözümünde profesyonel yardım gerektiği açıktır. Profesyonel kurumlaşma ve meslek örgütleri çerçevesinde yaşlı bakımı ve hizmeti yapılarak hem ailenin üzerinden yük alınacak hem de yaşlının yeni rolüne uygun bir yaşam şansı yakalaması sağlanacaktır. Bu anlamıyla huzurevleri, kentsel hayatın bir gereği olarak ortaya çıkmıştır. Huzurevleri, devletin sosyal alana bir müdahalesidir. Huzurevleri, Türk toplumunda yaşlı vatandaşları barındırmayı ve yaşamlarının geri kalan kısmını huzurlu geçirmelerini sağlamayı amaç edinmektedir.
One of the most important problems, which are experienced during the old ages, is caring of older people. Older people, who are 65 years-old or older, may need the care because of the risk of being sick and physical inadequacy, even if they are not sick and don’t need any care. The older people and their families face to select one of the social care alternatives because of functional and physical inadequacies during this period. It is obvious that professional help is required for the solution of problems arising out of living together and the problems of old age as a natural result of modern life. Through caring for and offering service to the old within the framework of professional institutionalization and organizations, not only the burden of the family will be reduced but also the old will be given the chance of a new lifestyle in accordance with their new role. In this sense, nursing homes have emerged as a necessity of urban life. Nursing homes is an intervention of the state to social space. Nursing homes aim at sheltering old citizens and providing them with a peaceful environment for spending the rest of their lives in Turkish society.
