Özet
Immunohistochemical expression of p53 protein and its correlation with histologic grade and proliferative activity as assessed by proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression was investigated in 21 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) , Conventionally processed tissue sections from all cases were stained for p53 protein and PCNA using the monoclonal antibodies Pab1801 and PC-1O, respectively. Ten of the 21 cases (47,61%), were found to have detectable evidence of p53 mutation by virtue of the immunohistochemical detection of mutant p53 protein, p53 Grades did not show correlation either with the PCNA indices or with histological grades, There was a positive correlation between the PCNA scores and histologic grades (p<O,O1). Our results indicate that p53-positive hepatocellular carcinoma is not rare m Turkey and p53 mutations 00 not seem to contribute to the histologic differentiation and proliferative activity of the tumours
