Kinetics of ?-pinene isomerization

The kinetics of pinene isomerization over clinoptilolite with formation of several products has been investigated in a batch reactor at atmospheric pressure. Initially mainly camphene and limonene were produced, and only at relatively high conversions were other secondary products formed. Selectivity values at particular conversions were seen to be independent of catalyst pretreatment, although activity was different. The observed kinetic regularities were modeled on the basis of an elementary step mechanism. © 1998 American Chemical Society.
