Öğe The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health and psychiatric nursing specialty(Kare Publ, 2024) Turgut, Emel Ozturk; Turk, AytugObjectives:The fact that distance education has been switched to with the pandemic and physical limitation measures have affected the thesis processes in postgraduate education. It is important for mental health and psychiatric nurses, who have roles in protecting and improving community mental health, to adapt to the developments and changes brought about by the pandemic in terms of crisis management and the long-term effects of the pandemic. Postgraduate dissertations for nursing care based on scientific results constitute important evidence. In the research, the adaptation of mental health and psychiatric nursing postgraduate dissertations to the special conditions of the pandemic was examined. The type of research, data collection methods, interventions, and the reflections of the pandemic on the dissertation topic were evaluated. Methods: In the descriptive type of research, the postgraduate dissertations were scanned on September 05, 2022, at the Council of Higher Education Thesis Center using the document review method. A total of 107 dissertations completed between 2020 and 2022 in the departments of Mental Health and Diseases Nursing, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, permission to publish theses in the database, approved were examined, 62 dissertations that met the inclusion criteria were included in the research. Results: Five of the dissertations included in the research are doctoral dissertations. It was determined that 75.8% of the dissertations were descriptive, descriptive-cross-sectional, and descriptive-relational types, 51.6% of the data were obtained by face-to-face interview, and 27.4% of the sample group were nurses and health workers. It has been determined that research has been conducted with patients who are diagnosed with coronavirus disease-19 and nursing nurses. Conclusion: It has been determined that descriptive, descriptive-cross-sectional, and descriptive-relational type of research is intensive in master's degree dissertations, and this situation was similar before the pandemic. In experimental and semi-experimental dissertations, distance and hybrid intervention programs have shown the importance of telepsychiatry/tele mental health applications. It has been determined that the data are often obtained face-to-face, distance and hybrid methods are used in intervention programs, and the pandemic is included in the dissertations topics.Öğe Internalized stigma and the quality of life and self-esteem of individuals with bipolar disorder(Kare Publ, 2023) Turk, Aytug; Ugurlu, Nezihe BulutObjectives: This study was conducted in order to examine the effect of socio-demographic and clinical characteristics that are thought to have an impact on the internalized stigma, quality of life, and self-esteem of individuals with bipolar disorder and to determine the relationship between these variables. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 105 participants during the remission period in a community mental health center in Izmir City, Turkiye. The participants were interviewed face-to-face, and data were collected in December 2017 and April 2018 using the Socio-Demographic Data Form, Internalized Stamp Scale in Mental Diseases (ISMI), World Health Organization Quality Life Scale-Short Form (WHOQOL-BREF), and the Rosenberg Self-Respect Scale (RSES). The number, percentage, and average were used in descriptive statistics. Comparisons of in-ter-group socio-demographic and clinical variables are made using Spearman's correlation analysis, while the relation-ship between internalized stigma, quality of life, and self-esteem, which are conceptual variables, is evaluated using the Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis variance analysis. Results:The patients' mean ISMI score was 58.56 +/- 18, and the mean WHOQOL-BREF score was 96.48 +/- 19.98. In addition, it was determined that 26% of the patients had low self-esteem. The socio-demographic and descriptive characteristics of the patients included education (p<0.05), income (p<0.001), employment status (p<0.01), a physical illness accom-panying their mental illness (p<0.05), and the presence of a suicide attempt (p<0.05). It was determined that there was a significant difference between the groups on all scale scores. There is a strong negative relationship between ISMI and WHOQOL-BREF (r:-0.782, p<0.001) and RSES (r:-0.773, p<0.001), and a positive relationship between RSES and WHOQOL-BREF (r:0.749, p<0.001). Conclusion: As internalized stigma increases, the quality of life and self-esteem decrease. For this reason, it is recom-mended to establish intervention programs to reduce the perceived level of stigma, improve their capacity to cope with and manage stigma, and increase their quality of life and self-esteem.Öğe Work life-related loneliness among nurse managers and its effect on life satisfaction: Turkey's example(Wiley, 2024) Turk, Aytug; Sahan, HaticeAim: To determine the effects of perceived workplace loneliness on life satisfaction among nurses working as managers. Background: Nurses working as managers often encounter negative situations, and their consequences extend beyond their professional responsibilities to encompass nonprofessional domains, including life satisfaction. Methods: This study enrolled 158 nurse managers (NMs) after gaining their consent. Data from the descriptive cross-sectional study were obtained using the Descriptive Information Form, Loneliness in Work Life Scale, and Life Satisfaction Scale. The relationship between relevant scales was assessed using Pearson's correlation analysis and multiple linear regression. Findings: A moderately strong, negative, and significant relationship was observed between work life-related loneliness and life satisfaction among NMs. Multiple regression analysis revealed that three independent variables-two LAWS subscales and the job satisfaction status-significantly affected NMs' life satisfaction (adjusted R-2 = 0.39, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Perceived loneliness and professional satisfaction are important predictors of life satisfaction among NMs. Thus, it is crucial to determine the factors that negatively affect the professional satisfaction and perceived loneliness of nurses working as managers and to implement psychosocial interventions in such cases. Implications for nursing and health policy: This study demonstrates the significance of identifying problems in the professional lives of NMs, who are involved in planning nursing services and implementing interventions to address these problems.
